This application provides a speed camera warning system for suitable Series 60 3ed phones. It is designed to operate either in conjunction with Nokia Maps, or in the background (e.g. whilst using another application or in standby) and popup to the foreground with an audio visual alert, then return to the background

The application together with an installation and user guide is available as a free download

A suitable speed camera data file is required. A dummy file speedcam.txt is provided to illustrate the required format of the file. For the UK, a good source of up to date files is available at Pocket GPS World (I have no affiliation with them) who now provide a file specifically for this application - an annual subscription is required to obtain the relevant file (look for Nokia SpeedCam) from:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras
An old pocketgps_uk_sc.csv file that can be used to try out the application is available free in:
http://www.pocketgpspoi.com/downloads/pocketgps_uk_sc_oct05.zip
This detector has been tested on a N95-1 running V21 firmware and latest Nokia Maps v2
http://europe.nokia.com/A4984199using both the internal GPS and an external BlueTooth GPS, but should work with other Series 60 3ed phones that support Location Based Services.

Version 3.0

A user landmark can be selected, and is pointed to on the speedcam dial as an extra grey arrow. The name of the landmark is also shown with the current straight line distance. Landmarks are selected and cancelled from new Landmarks option.

The camera scan angle can now be changed in Preferences. A narrower angle reduces false alerts from cameras on adjacent roads but may also reduce warning time for cameras around a corner

The Nokia Maps application can be automatically started with the SpeedCam overlay shown when SpeedCam is started. Set by new option in Preferences.

The user interface has been significantly changed so that Preferences and Landmarks are now selected from the Options key. Exit is now on the Exit key. The double click C key and Green/C key functions have been swapped. Check user guide for more information on changes.

New icon for SpeedCam. If installing over an older version the new icon may not appear till the phone is restarted.

The landmarks_3rd_fp1.sis file included in speedcam.zip must be signed and installed for speedcam v3.0 to work.

Problems

Maps overlay is not at bottom of screen. Change N95 8GB option in SpeedCam Preferences screen to the opposite setting yes/no

On startup, just flashes a white screen and goes back to the applications menu. Install modules in phone memory.

Application sometimes shuts down. Update firmware

'No GPS source found' error can occur on some phones when using internal GPS. Select A-GPS option as well, and ensure files are properly signed

Maps overlay not displayed in landscape mode. Intentional

Alerts sounds not heard. If you have a bluetooth connection in your car that doesn't support A2DP, you'll only hear phone calls.
