I have just found This useful

But there is limitation that all your friends does not get message but your mobile says message sent. i dont know the reason.

So you have to do this:

1)
Create a new message center

Message Center Name: ANY

Message Center Number (MOST IMPortant): +919810051905

Now select prefered connection -> Packet Data
3)After creat a new message center manually pls select it from
MESSAGE CENTER IN USE BOX

Now Go to
setting -> phone setting -> connection -> packet data

Here change PACKET DATA CONNECTION -> when available
(Pls. right as i written here)

All setting has been DONE !!

Now for sending message You have to write 0(zero) before any contact number. pls dont make mistake.

You have to have a Airtel simcard.
And see the video and note that you have to type 0(zero) before any contact number not 91
And note that after all setting have been done can you see the Gprs symbol at left upper corner

It is NOT WORKING in Bihar because of Message Centre Number provided.
Here it begins with +9199........ not with +9198........
If there is any other Message Centre Number please Provide....

You should follow every step,

After complete every step, if you are able to see E symbol (see my attached image) over the Upper left corner it means setting have been done complete

NOW YOU SHOULD MUST RIGHT 0(ZERO) BEFORE ANY CONTACT NUMBER

Exapmle, if number is 9428462545 so u should write
09428462545

i've done everything you said. i'm unable to send sms though.
one funny thing, since there is no edge here, i just have the
gprs arrows symbol that appear showing the availability of gprs.
but just when i do the other steps and click send, i get the gprs on hold
symbol which is a slash cutting the arrows. basically, the problem is that
my phone tries to send the sms but without using the packet data connection.
and all this after i selected to use packet data instead of gsm.

i hope you guys understood what i was trying to tell you about those symbols as
they can help diagnose the problem. i use a nokia n95 8gb.

The last thing that i can done for you just type 0(zero) before any contact number example,

And yes pls use airtel mobile for testing because when you tried to send message to any other service other than airtel its not 100% working means if you send message to bsnl there would be possibilities that it can be send or not but if you use airtel number its work 100%.
And finally i want to tell you that 99% you cannot send message to any idea or vodafone number its only for sending message to any airtel

i followed all the rules. i use airtel and i'm sms-ing airtel pals.
i put the zero before the contact number too. i am from andhra.
either this trick does not work here or the problem is as i said, the moment
i click send, the gprs network symbol shows that its on hold. the youtube video shows
that the gprs/edge network connection does not go on hold when the message
is being sent. Please Help! :)
