Mario Puzo - Omerta
http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/7720000/7720529.gif
Although Mario Puzo actually wrote about a great many subjects—gambling, politics, postwar military life, the Italian-American immigrant experience—a single, lucrative obsession surfaced in his fiction again and again: the history and evolution of the Mafia in 20th-century America. His final novel, the posthumously published Omerta, revisits that obsession and forms the independent third installment in a thematic trilogy that began with The Godfather and continued, in 1995, with The Last Don. In these three novels and in their 1984 sibling, The Sicilian, Puzo created a fictional world with a mythical resonance all its own and invested the realities of organized crime with a lurid, operatic grandeur.
Omerta introduces a new Mafia family worthy of the Corleones and the Clericuzios: the family of Don Raymonde Aprile. Their story begins in Sicily in 1967, when the dying Don Vincenzo Zeno—"the last of the true Mafia chiefs"—entrusts the young Raymonde Aprile with the task of raising his soon-to-be-orphaned two-year-old son, Astorre. Following this brief prologue, the novel moves forward nearly 30 years to the world of contemporary New York. Don Raymonde is now retired and has realized one of the great dreams of the career criminal: He has become legitimate. In the grand tradition of the American robber barons, he has extricated himself from all illegal activities, helped his children establish themselves in safe, prestigious professions, and become "a gentleman banker and pillar of society." Three years after his retirement, he is shot to death on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral by a pair of professional hit men.
In the aftermath of the Don's death, Astorre, his adopted son, takes center stage. Astorre, on the surface, is a harmless sort: a wedding singer, horseman, and ladies' man who earns his living by managing the Aprile family's macaroni franchise. He is also a "Qualified Man," trained in the ways of the old Mafiosi and steeped in the Sicilian traditions of honor and vengeance. Astorre attempts to follow his late guardian's instructions by protecting the Aprile heirs and by preserving the integrity of their multibillion dollar banking interests. But at the same time, he follows the dictates of the ancient code of Omerta and ruthlessly pursues the men responsible for Don Raymonde's murder.
Astorre's quest brings him into contact with a vivid, often vile gallery of supporting characters. Among them are a rival Mafia chieftain with his own undisclosed agenda; a South-American drug lord with a demented desire to own and operate his own nuclear arsenal; an FBI agent whose obsessive dedication leads to tragic consequences; two lethal, deeply compromised NYPD homicide detectives; and a pair of charming, athletic fraternal twins who specialize in murder for hire. Astorre's encounters with these and other, violent and corrupt players nearly cost him his life and culminate in a bloody confrontation in which justice—Sicilian style—prevails.

When you work for a T.O.D. (short for Tyrannical Office Despot... also known as Amy Jenkins, Director of the Human Resources Division at the New York Journal, New York City's leading photo-newspaper), and your musician boyfriend of ten years has just announced that he can't commit to a long term relationship because he has to take it "one day at a time", and your best girlfriend is on fertility drugs because she and her husband can't seem to get pregnant, and your mother is driving cross country in an RV with a younger man, and you can't seem to be able to find an affordable studio apartment anywhere in the five boroughs, it might seem like things can't get any worse. They can. Because the T.O.D. might make you fire Ida Lopez, the most popular employee in the paper's senior staff dining room. And Ida might sue for wrongful termination. And you might just find yourself giving a deposition in front of Mitch Hertzog, scion of one of Manhattan's wealthiest law families, "a soulless corporate drone" who embraces everything you most despise... but also happens to have a nice smile and a killer bod. Clive Cussler
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s289/akon1st/sahara-1.jpg
It is 1865. A Confederate ironclad, Texas, fights her way through the Federal blockade and vanishes into the Atlantic as Richmond falls, bearing a secret cargo that could change history... It is 1931. A world-famous Australian aviatrix, Kitty Mannock, vanishes mysteriously in the middle of the Sahara while attempting a record-breaking flight from London to Capetown and is never see again... It is 1995. Dirk Pitt, on a mission to find the remains of a Pharaoh's funeral barge buried in the bottom of the Nile, rescues an attractive young woman, Dr. Eva Rojas, a biochemist with the UN World Health Organization, from being murdered by thugs on a beach near Alexandria... Who but Clive Cussler could tie these events together in a book that is Dirk Pitt's most gripping and action-packed adventure ever? With the mastery that has made each of his books a major best-seller and raised him to the top rank of adventure fiction, Cussler plunges his hero into the African dessert, where the beautiful Dr. Rojas is investigating a mysterious disease that is driving thousands of people into madness, cannibalism and death - a disease caused, perhaps, by vast, deadly and unprecedented pollution, leaking a chemical substance that threatens to extinguish all life in the world's seas, and human life itself... As the race is on to save the world from environmental catastrophe, Dirk Pitt and his friends plunge into darkest Africa, battling their way up the Niger to a huge, secret, hazardous waste project, a partnership between Yves Massarde, French billionaire entrepreneur, and General Zateb Kazim, the brutal, despotic, corrupt tyrant who rules the West African nation of Mali. Pitt's epic journey up the Niger River against the gunboat fleets and modern jet fighters of two African nations leads him to the discovery of Kazim and Massarde's secret, only to find himself captured and forced to work as a slave under inhuman condition in a gold mine deep in the desert, along with Dr. Rojas and her team of UN scientists. As the clock ticks toward the world's destruction, Pitt plots his escape across the Sahara desert. Making his way across the trackless desert to alert the world to the source of the threat, Pitt uncovers in the process the truth about Kitty Mannock's death, as well as the incredible secret behind Lincoln's assassination that lies concealed, in the middle of the Sahara, aboard the old Confederate iron-clad... As usual, Pitt trashes the bad guys; as always, Pitt gets the girl; as before, the result is an un-put-down-able book, charged with excitement plot twists and bigger-than-life characters, compelling, satisfying reading by the master of the genre."

Neil Gaiman
http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s289/akon1st/FragileThings.jpg
A mysterious circus terrifies an audience for one extraordinary performance before disappearing into the night, taking one of the spectators along with it . . .
In a novella set two years after the events of American Gods, Shadow pays a visit to an ancient Scottish mansion, and finds himself trapped in a game of murder and monsters . . .
In a Hugo Award-winning short story set in a strangely altered Victorian England, the great detective Sherlock Holmes must solve a most unsettling royal murder . . .
Two teenage boys crash a party and meet the girls of their dreams--and nightmares . . .
In a Locus Award-winning tale, the members of an excusive epicurean club lament that they've eaten everything that can be eaten, with the exception of a legendary, rare, and exceedingly dangerous Egyptian bird . . .
Such marvelous creations and more--including a short story set in the world of The Matrix, and others set in the worlds of gothic fiction and children's fiction--can be found in this extraordinary collection, which showcases Gaiman's storytelling brilliance as well as his terrifyingly entertaining dark sense of humor. By turns delightful, disturbing, and diverting, Fragile Things is a gift of literary enchantment from one of the most unique writers of our time.

Deception Point opens with NASA personnel making a startling discovery. An ancient meteorite is found buried within an Arctic glacier. Samples taken from this meteorite reveal that it contains fossils of some Isopod-like life forms not previously seen on Earth. Could this discovery prove that we are not alone in the universe? To answer that question, several civilian scientists are dispatched to the site in order to investigate the origin of the fossils and verify NASA's findings. Before any official announcement can be made, however, one of the scientists dies under mysterious circumstances. The remaining scientists quickly realize that all is not what it appears to be as they struggle to separate truth from deceit.

Plenty of liberal scholars, entertainers and pundits have railed against the hoodwinking of the American people, but Michael Moore's Dude, Where's My Country? stands out for its thoroughly positive perspective. He says America has been tricked by Republican lawmakers and their wealthy corporate pals, who use a combination of concocted bogeymen and lies to stay rich and in control. Moore is angry and has harsh words for George W Bush and his fellow conservatives concerning the reasoning behind going to war in Iraq, the collapse of Enron and other companies, and the relationship between the Bushes, the Saudi Arabian government and Osama bin Laden. But his book is intended to serve as a handbook for how people with liberal opinions (which is most of America, Moore contends, whether they call themselves liberals or not) can take back their country from the conservative forces in power.
Moore uses his trademark brand of confrontational, exasperated humour skilfully as he offers a primer on how to change the world view of one's annoying conservative blowhard brother-in-law, and he crafts a surprisingly thorough "Draft Oprah for President" movement. Refreshingly, Dude, Where's My Country? avoids being completely one-sided, identifying areas where Moore believes Republicans get it right and making some cutting criticisms of his fellow lefties. Such allowances, brief though they may be, make one long for a political climate where the shouting polemicists on both sides would see a few more shades of grey. Dude, Where's My Country? is a little bit scattered, as Moore tries to cram opinions on Iraq, tax cuts, corporate welfare, Wesley Clark and the Patriot Act into one slim volume--and the penchant to go for a laugh sometimes gets in the way of clear arguments. But such variety also gives the reader a broader range of his bewildered, enraged yet stalwartly upbeat points of view. --John Moe

Readers beware. The brilliant, breathtaking conclusion to J.K. Rowling's spellbinding series is not for the faint of heart--such revelations, battles, and betrayals await in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that no fan will make it to the end unscathed. Luckily, Rowling has prepped loyal readers for the end of her series by doling out increasingly dark and dangerous tales of magic and mystery, shot through with lessons about honor and contempt, love and loss, and right and wrong. Fear not, you will find no spoilers in our review--to tell the plot would ruin the journey, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is an odyssey the likes of which Rowling's fans have not yet seen, and are not likely to forget. But we would be remiss if we did not offer one small suggestion before you embark on your final adventure with Harry--bring plenty of tissues.
The heart of Book 7 is a hero's mission--not just in Harry's quest for the Horcruxes, but in his journey from boy to man--and Harry faces more danger than that found in all six books combined, from the direct threat of the Death Eaters and you-know-who, to the subtle perils of losing faith in himself. Attentive readers would do well to remember Dumbledore's warning about making the choice between "what is right and what is easy," and know that Rowling applies the same difficult principle to the conclusion of her series. While fans will find the answers to hotly speculated questions about Dumbledore, Snape, and you-know-who, it is a testament to Rowling's skill as a storyteller that even the most astute and careful reader will be taken by surprise.
A spectacular finish to a phenomenal series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a bittersweet read for fans. The journey is hard, filled with events both tragic and triumphant, the battlefield littered with the bodies of the dearest and despised, but the final chapter is as brilliant and blinding as a phoenix's flame, and fans and skeptics alike will emerge from the confines of the story with full but heavy hearts, giddy and grateful for the experience.

The overall goal of this book is to provide introductory coverage of Symbian OS and get developers who have little or no knowledge of Symbian OS developing as quickly as possible. A clear and concise text on how Symbian OS architecture works and the core programming techniques and concepts needed to be a solid, competent Symbian programmer Shows how Symbian OS architecture and programming compares with other mobile operating systems (to help transition and for better understanding) Provides multiple examples and extra descriptions for areas most difficult for new programmers who are unfamiliar to the unique OS architecture Contains many tips and techniques documented only, up until now, by scattered white papers and newsgroup threads Describes many details of inner operations of Symbian OS, focusing specifically on those needed to become a competent programmer The book will cover development ranging from low-level system programming to end user GUI applications. It also covers the development and packaging tools, as well as providing some detailed reference and examples for key APIs.

The Wheel of Time™ Series
"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose.... The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time.
But it was a beginning."
With this phrase, millions of readers have entered a world strikingly real, rich in detail and complexity—the world of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time. A world of kings, queens, and Aes Sedai—women who can tap the True Source and wield the One Power, which turns the Wheel and drives the universe: a world where the war between Light and Shadow is fought every day.
At the moment of Creation, the Creator bound the Dark One away from the world of humankind, but more than three thousand years ago, Aes Sedai, then both men and women, unknowingly bored into that prison outside of time. The Dark One was able to touch the world only lightly before the hole was soon sealed over. But the Dark One's taint settled on saidin, the male half of the Power, and every male Aes Sedai went mad. In the Breaking of the World they destroyed civilization and changed the very face of the earth, sinking mountains beneath the sea and bringing new seas where land had been.
Now only women bear the title Aes Sedai. Commanded by their Amyrlin Seat and divided into seven Ajahs named by color, they rule the great island city of Tar Valon, where their White Tower stands, and are bound by the Three Oaths, fixed into their bones with saidar, the female half of the Power: To speak no word that is not true, to make no weapon for one man to kill another, and never to use the One Power against another except as a weapon against Shadowspawn or, in the last extreme, of defending her own life or that of her Warder or another sister.
Men still are born who can learn to channel the Power, or worse, who will channel one day whether they try to or not. Doomed to madness, destruction, and death by the taint of the saidin, they are hunted down by the Aes Sedai and gentled, cut off forever from the Power for the safety of the world. No man goes to this willingly. Even if they survive the hunt, they seldom survive long after gentling.
For more than three thousand years, while empires rose and fell, nothing has been so feared as a man who can channel. But for all those three thousand years there have been the Prophecies of the Dragon, that the seal of the Dark One's prison will weaken and he will touch the world once more, and the Dragon, who sealed up that hole, will be Reborn to face the Dark One again. A child, born in sight of Tar Valon on the slopes of Dragonmount, will grow up to be the Dragon Reborn, the only hope of humanity in the Last Battle.
A world of kings and queens, nations and wars, where the White Tower rules only Tar Valon but even kings and queens are wary of Aes Sedai machinations. A world where the Shadow and the Prophecies loom together.
This is the world Robert Jordan invites all to enter. This is the world of The Wheel of Time.

time for a bit of fun...my contribution for today is "barry trotter and the shameless parody" by Michael Gerber.
Hogwash is the most famous school in the wizarding world and
Barry Trotter is its most famous pupil. Its been that way ever since
J.G. Rollins' Bairy Trotter and the Philosopher's Scone broke publishing
Records worldwide.
So important has Barry become to the school's bottom-line that it
has been agreed that he can stay at Hogwash for as long as he likes.
Barry Trotter is 22.
Groupie- laden and scholarship-free, life has been good for the
perpetual student, but now disaster looms. The movie Barry Trotter
and the Inevitable Attempt to Cash-in has gone into production and the
Marketing Dept. at Wagner Bros, is going into overdrive. Hogwash
will be submerged under a tide of souvenir-crazed Muddle fans, torn
apart and sold on eBuy, stone by mossy stone.
The movie must be stopped. Forget Lord Valumart - Barry, Ermine
Cringer and Lon Measly must try to defeat the most powerful force
of grasping sleazoids the world has ever known: Hollywood.
"Gerber has succeeded in creating a marginally grotesque,
bouncing beauty of a throwaway tome. Down with Potter!
Trotter is the real thing."

Mein Kampf
by Adolf Hitler
http://www.odaha.com/Images/Review/MeinKampf/hitler.jpg
The angry ranting of an obscure, small-party politician, the first volume of Mein Kampf was virtually ignored when it was originally published in 1925. Likewise the second volume, which appeared in 1926. The book details Hitler's childhood, the "betrayal" of Germany in World War I, the desire for revenge against France, the need for lebensraum for the German people, and the means by which the National Socialist party can gain power. It also includes Hitler's racist agenda and his glorification of the "Aryan" race. The few outside the Nazi party who read it dismissed it as nonsense, not believing that anyone could--or would--carry out its radical, terrorist programs. As Hitler and the Nazis gained power, first party members and then the general public were pressured to buy the book. By the time Hitler became chancellor of the Third Reich in 1933, the book stood atop the German bestseller lists. Had the book been taken seriously when it was first published, perhaps the 20th century would have been very different.
Beyond the anger, hatred, bigotry, and self-aggrandizing, Mein Kampf is saddled with tortured prose, meandering narrative, and tangled metaphors (one person was described as "a thorn in the eyes of venal officials"). That said, it is an incredibly important book. It is foolish to think that the Holocaust could not happen again, especially if World War II and its horrors are forgotten. As an Amazon.com reader has pointed out, "If you want to learn about why the Holocaust happened, you can't avoid reading the words of the man who was most responsible for it happening." Mein Kampf, therefore, must be read as a reminder that evil can all too easily grow.

Book Name: The Darwin Awards: Evolution in Action
Author Name: Wendy Northcutt
Format Preferred: html
Genre: Humour
Description:
With over a quarter million copies in print and six months on The New York Times bestseller list, The Darwin Awards shows that readers crave humor. And what better place to find it than in the stories of those human beings who improve the gene pool by removing themselves from it in a sublimely idiotic fashion.
Marvel at the thief who tries to steal live electrical wires. Gape at the lawnchair jockey who floats to a height of 16,000 feet suspended by helium balloons. And learn from the man who peers into a gasoline can using a cigarette lighter. All contend for Darwin Awards when their choices culminate in magnificent misadventures.
These tales of trial and awe-inspiring error -- verified by the author and endorsed by website readers -- illustrate the ongoing saga of survival of the fittest in all its selective glory. The Darwin Awards vividly portrays the finest examples of evolution in action, and shows us just how uncommon common sense can be.

With her stalwart partner hospitalized and unable to help, Jack follows a trail of death throughout the Midwest, on a collision course with the smartest and deadliest adversary she's ever known.
During the chase, Jack jeopardizes her career, her love life, and her closest friends. She also comes to a startling realization -- serial killers have families, and blood runs thick.

Stephen Hawking & Leonard Mlodinow - A Briefer History of Time (Audiobook)
Read by: Erik Davies | Publisher: Books on Tape | Unabridged | Source: 4 CDs w/Illustration PDF File | MP3 CBR 64 kbit/s 44100 Hz Mono | Files: 69 | 120 Mb | Runtime: 4:22:00 | ISBN: 0739321870
Stephen Hawking’s worldwide bestseller, A Brief History of Time, has been a landmark volume in scientific writing. Its author’s engaging voice is one reason, and the compelling subjects he addresses is another: the nature of space and time, the role of God in creation, the history and future of the universe. But it is also true that in the years since its publication, readers have repeatedly told Professor Hawking of their great difficulty in understanding some of the book’s most important concepts.
This is the origin of and the reason for A Briefer History of Time: its author’s wish to make its content more accessible to readers –as well as to bring it up-to-date with the latest scientific observations and findings.
Although this book is literally somewhat “briefer,” it actually expands on the great subjects of the original. Purely technical concepts, such as the mathematics of chaotic boundary conditions, are gone. Conversely, subjects of wide interest that were difficult to follow because they were interspersed throughout the book have now been given entire chapters of their own, including relativity, curved space, and quantum theory.
This reorganization has allowed the authors to expand areas of special interest and recent progress, from the latest developments in string theory to exciting developments in the search for a complete unified theory of all the forces of physics. Like prior editions of the book–but even more so–A Briefer History of Time will guide nonscientists everywhere in the ongoing search for the tantalizing secrets at the heart of time and space.

Book Name: The Road
Author Name: Cormac McCarthy
Format: html, pdb
Genre: Fiction
From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. Violence, in McCarthy's postapocalyptic tour de force, has been visited worldwide in the form of a "long shear of light and then a series of low concussions" that leaves cities and forests burned, birds and fish dead and the earth shrouded in gray clouds of ash. In this landscape, an unnamed man and his young son journey down a road to get to the sea. (The man's wife, who gave birth to the boy after calamity struck, has killed herself.) They carry blankets and scavenged food in a shopping cart, and the man is armed with a revolver loaded with his last two bullets. Beyond the ever-present possibility of starvation lies the threat of roving bands of cannibalistic thugs. The man assures the boy that the two of them are "good guys," but from the way his father treats other stray survivors the boy sees that his father has turned into an amoral survivalist, tenuously attached to the morality of the past by his fierce love for his son. McCarthy establishes himself here as the closest thing in American literature to an Old Testament prophet, trolling the blackest registers of human emotion to create a haunting and grim novel about civilization's slow death after the power goes out.

Eternity
(The first book in the Eternity series)
(1998)
A novel by Maggie Shayne
Three hundred years ago, the good citizens of Sanctuary believed there was a Witch in their midst...
Her name was Raven St. James, a woman whose unearthly beauty and beguiling charms inspired rumors of Witchcraft. Only one man tried to save her from the hangman's noose -- Duncan, the town minister, who thought it strange that anyone could acuse this lovely and vibrant woman of anything wicked. Stranger still was the fact that Raven was a Witch. And even though she held the power to save herself, she could not rescue Duncan -- who died trying to help her...
Three hundred years later, the immortal Witch searches for the one soul who truly loved her...
At last, after centuries of loneliness and longing, Raven has found him. Her precious Duncan has returned -- reborn in the body of a man who has no memory of the past they shared. Infinity
(The second book in the Eternity series)
(1999)
A novel by Maggie Shayne
A Bewitching Romance
Last year, Maggie Shayne delighted readers with her bewitching tale ETERNITY, a mystical blend of romance and fantasy that introduced Raven St. James, an Immortal High Witch. This captivating story of a love that reaches across centuries and becomes as immortal as the lovers themselves resonates with timeless passion, powerful magic, and haunting heartbreak. Now Shayne returns with the next chapter in the saga of the Immortal High Witches. Infinity is the spellbinding story of Arianna and Nicodimus -- a story of love found, lives lost, and the heartbreaking effects of the ultimate betrayal.
It is the year 1511, and in the Scottish Highlands a young woman named Arianna Sinclair is devastated by the drowning death of her beloved sister, Raven. She seeks solace among three women known as the Crones, village outcasts who practice mysterious rituals. While Arianna has yet to discover the truth about herself, the three women know she possesses a power far beyond anything they, the mortal Crones, have.
Someone else knows of Arianna's powers, too, and her life is forever changed when he rides into town one day. His name is Nicodimus Lachlan, and with his help Arianna will discover the truth about her past, her future, and her heart. She will discover true love only to lose it, find an inner peace that will be lost to the ravages of war, and die a bloody and violent death only to be reborn again. For she is an Immortal High Witch, one of a secretive and magical group both gifted and cursed with eternal life.
Nicodimus is an Immortal High Witch as well and thoroughly bewitched by the lovely young Arianna. As a respected member of the community because of his relationship to its leader, he weds Arianna in hopes of protecting her from the paranoid, witch-hunting villagers. And while he vows not to love her for fear of reliving the heartbreak he still suffers from the loss of his wife and sons 700 years before, Arianna is otherwise determined.
Before their love can be fully realized, warring factions who have pursued Nicodimus through centuries of time exact their revenge on the tiny village he calls home. Arianna learns the truth about herself when she is killed and comes back to life. Before she can react to this newfound knowledge, she is kidnapped and imprisoned by one of the dark witches, who intends to use her as a lure for Nicodimus, his true quarry.
Shayne's style of writing is engaging, intelligent, and sophisticated. Her characters are poignantly real and her stories utterly mesmerizing. The love between Arianna and Nicodimus is exquisitely drawn, their star-crossed fates both heart-wrenching and heartwarming. Infinity is both romance and fantasy at their best, all of it wrapped up in a tidy package of lyrical prose that makes for an unforgettable and highly pleasurable reading experience.

Destiny
(The third book in the Eternity series)
(2001)
A novel by Maggie Shayne
Maggie Shayne continues her bewitching series of paranormal romances, which began with Eternity and Infinity, with the third book in this captivating saga of immortal witches who battle for love and life. Shayne lends a whole new meaning to the word "timeless" as she spans thousands of years and casts a spell of her own with this mystical blend of romance and fantasy.
Building on characters who were briefly introduced in Infinity, Shayne takes her readers back and forth between present-day Boston and the ancient civilization of Sumer, which existed some 4,500 years ago. Journeying into the past, we meet the young witch Nidaba, a temperamental adolescent who is being raised to assume the role of high priestess among the Sumerian people. Learning at her side is the young prince of Sumer, Eannatum. Both bear the mark of the Immortal High Witches, but neither is aware of their heritage as they are far too busy falling in love. However, the king of Sumer dictates that Eannatum marry Puabi, the princess of neighboring Ur, so that the two may combine their forces to fend off attacks from the nearby land of Umma. What follows is a tragedy of heart-wrenching proportions, the effect of which will last for millennia to come.
In the present, Eannatum is living a quiet, reclusive life as an antique dealer in Boston when he reads a news article about an unknown woman in a nearby mental hospital who went berserk after miraculously surviving a fall from a 40-story building. There is a picture of the woman, and Eannatum is shocked to realize it is Nidaba, who he thought perished in a fire 4,500 years ago. He rescues her and takes her to his home, not knowing that Puabi has also survived all these years and is hot on their trail, crazed for revenge. Puabi's ability to assume anyone's likeness makes for several hair-raising moments during the poignant reunion of Nidaba and Eannatum, who are only now fully realizing the strength of their love.
Shayne blends present and past in a seamless narrative marked by a deft sense of pacing, riveting suspense, and some blisteringly hot sex. Her unique blend of history, witchcraft, and passion blurs the boundaries between romance, horror, and fantasy, creating a bewitching bit of literary magic every bit as spellbinding as the High Immortal Witches themselves.

Twilight Hunger
(The fifth book in the Twilight Series series)
(2002)
A novel by Maggie Shayne
For Morgan DeSilva, fantasy is part of everyday life. As a screenwriter, she takes people's most passionate hopes, dreams, and fears and turns them into larger-than-life stories. At first she believes that the ancient diaries she finds in the attic of an old house in Maine are only the ramblings of a long-dead madman called Dante who fancied himself a vampire -- a source of inspiration she eagerly uses to pave her way to wealth and fame. But, now that she's reached those goals, she dreams of Dante at night...dark, erotic dreams that she fears are somehow dangerously real. For there are marks on her neck that have no other explanation -- and she is undeniably growing weaker and weaker with each passing night. The one thing Morgan doesn't know is whether the Dante who comes to her by night is a creature of darkness, hell-bent on destroying her, or if he is truly destined to be her love throughout eternity -- her only protection against powerful supernatural enemies who hunt them both.
