Peter David:
Sir Apropos of Nothing:
An antihero for the 21st century, Apropos springs from his mother's womb with a full set of teeth, ready to bite anyone who gets in the way of his survival in this fast, fun, heroic fantasy satire. Serious issues are bound to concern a child born of a gang rape conducted by knights who wouldn't know the Holy Grail even if it was filled with mead and emptied over their heads. David, author of more than 40 novels, primarily Star Trek- or Babylon 5-related, knows how to spin a story, entertaining the reader with pathos, bathos, mythos and psychos. When Apropos sets off to rescue a bratty, Hecate-worshipping princess named Entipy, he's an angry young man, lame of leg and spirit. As a reluctant hero he must endure a wicked phoenix, the Outer Lawless Regions and the Screaming Gorge of Eternal Madness, not to mention the annoyingly brave Tacit, who claims he was raised by unicorns. In the course of his quest he also discovers his father and learns how to turn lemons into a high-octane lemonade. At times repugnant, at others delightful, but never boring, Sir Apropos wants to "break out of the little box that I had been placed in, first by society, then by the knights, and now by destiny itself." Of course he blows the box into smithereens, as does David, who appears to be planning still more adventures (and hopefully, misadventures) for his cranky, crazy knight. Agent, Andy Zack.

The Woad To Wuin:
This sequel to the wildly successful Sir Apropos of Nothing (2001) starts off with a bawdy send-up of Lord of the Rings, but quickly segues into its own territory with the appearance of a mysterious Visionary at Apropos's bar, Bugger Hall. The man tells our antihero, You will become a shadow of your former self while escaping to the "Tragic Waste on the Road to Ruin" (or is that "Woad to Wuin"?), just as Sharee, Apropos's weaver companion from the first volume, bursts in and begs for his help in escaping Lord Beliquose. The very loud lord wants a powerful gem, the Eye of the Beholder, which the virtually powerless Sharee possesses and which Apropos promptly steals during their escape into the dominion of the Rockmunchers beneath Bugger Hall. Unfortunately, the gem enchants Apropos during their subsequent arrival at the Tragic Waste and turns him into Peacelord of Wuin, a barbarian who wears blue "woad" on his face before battle and has, as his consort, the beautiful but possibly quite wicked Lady Kate. When Apropos shakes off his amnesia, he resolves to reverse his fate, and that of Sharee's in a world turned upside down by violence. He also hopes to avenge his mothers death. The wisecracking wordplay that fans have come to expect skips smoothly off the page, lifting this satirical fantasy into a class all its own. Juggling goofy entertainment with gritty philosophical musing, David should build plenty of momentum for the promised third act, Tong Lashing.

Tong Lashing:
He's back. Sir Apropos of Nothing, the best reviewed anti-hero in modern fantasy makes his triumphant return and gets a severe "Tong Lashing" for his troubles.
Yes, the hero who reviewers have described as "Swiftian" -- Locus, "Schopenhauerian" -- Kirkus and "Cyclopian" -- Kirkus again -- and many other big words, has survived the events in his previous outing, The Woad to Wuin, events that would have killed a lesser man. Which is impressive considering it's hard to find a lesser man than Apropos: A con man, a knave, a scalawag...and those are his finer points.
This time out, Apropos finds himself out to sea...literally. Yes, our rogue knight winds up adrift in hostile waters after a "friendly" game of chance with a wizard turns ludicrously deadly. But once again Death is thwarted (or perhaps it simply wants nothing to do with him) as Apropos winds up a stranger in a strange land. A land called "Chinpan," populated by people who speak a different language and live by a code of honor, neither of which Apropos can comprehend.
And yet in Chinpan, Apropos slowly begins to examine his life and question whether he can aspire to true greatness. To become more than the hard-bitten cynic he's always been. He may yet be able to find a happy ending among a gentle people who are willing to accept him, faults and all. And he acquires a teacher who may even be able to set him on a road to true enlightenment.
But events conspire to pull Apropos in unexpected and dangerous directions. For his presence in Chinpan does not go unnoticed. What does the mysterious criminal organization known as the Forked Tong want with him? How do their plans tie in or conflict with the criminal Skang Kei family, and their enigmatic leader, Skang Kei Ho? What of the Mingol hordes? And what will be the fate of the Chin clan, including Double Chin, Cleft Chin, Kit Chin, and little Kit Chinette?
By turns hilarious and tragic, Tong Lashing leaves no signature moment of adventure unpummeled. Mysterious shadow warriors, demented rulers, martial arts lessons, ritual suicide...all that fun stuff and much more in this, the latest (and last?) adventure of Sir Apropos of Nothing.

Daphne Du Maurier - The Glass Blowers:
'Perhaps we shall not see each other again. I will write to you, though, and tell you, as best I can, the story of your family. A glass-blower, remember, breathes life into a vessel, giving it shape and form and sometimes beauty; but he can with that same breath, shatter and destroy it'
Faithful to her word, Sophie Duval reveals to her long-lost nephew the tragic story of a family of master craftsmen in eighteenth-century France. The world of the glass-blowers has its own traditions, it's own language - and its own rules. 'If you marry into glass' Pierre Labbé warns his daughter, 'you will say goodbye to everything familiar, and enter a closed world'. But crashing into this world comes the violence and terror of the French Revolution against which, the family struggles to survive. The Glass Blowers is a remarkable achievement - an imaginative and exciting reworking of du Maurier's own family history.

An Instance of the Fingerpost
An Instance of the Fingerpost is that rarest of all possible literary beasts--a mystery powered as much by ideas as by suspects, autopsies, and smoking guns. Hefty, intricately plotted, and intellectually ambitious, Fingerpost has drawn the inevitable comparisons to Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose and, for once, the comparison is apt.
The year is 1663, and the setting is Oxford, England, during the height of Restoration political intrigue. When Dr. Robert Grove is found dead in his Oxford room, hands clenched and face frozen in a rictus of pain, all the signs point to poison. Rashomon-like, the narrative circles around Grove's murder as four different characters give their version of events: Marco da Cola, a visiting Italian physician--or so he would like the reader to believe; Jack Prestcott, the son of a traitor who fled the country to avoid execution; Dr. John Wallis, a mathematician and cryptographer with a predilection for conspiracy theories; and Anthony Wood, a mild-mannered Oxford antiquarian whose tale proves to be the book's "instance of the fingerpost." (The quote comes from the philosopher Bacon, who, while asserting that all evidence is ultimately fallible, allows for "one instance of a fingerpost that points in one direction only, and allows of no other possibility.")
Like The Name of the Rose, this is one whodunit in which the principal mystery is the nature of truth itself. Along the way, Pears displays a keen eye for period details as diverse as the early days of medicine, the convoluted politics of the English Civil War, and the newfangled fashion for wigs. Yet Pears never loses sight of his characters, who manage to be both utterly authentic denizens of the 17th century and utterly authentic human beings. As a mystery, An Instance of the Fingerpost is entertainment of the most intelligent sort; as a novel of ideas, it proves equally satisfying.

Barbara Tuchman - A Distant Mirror:
In A Distant Mirror, historian Barbara Tuchman reveals in harrowing detail a "tortured century" with parallels to our own. People in the fourteenth century were subjected to natural and man-made disasters, including the Hundred Years' War, the Crusades, insurrection, lawlessness, the Schism of the Church, massacres of Jewish people, and the Black Death, which claimed the lives of nearly half the population living between India and Iceland. Barbara Tuchman introduces a nobleman, Enguerrand de Coucy (1340-1397), a "whole man in a fractured time," who takes the reader through the century and gives a personalized context through which to understand the events and attitudes of the day. A Distant Mirror goes beyond recording facts to analyze the psychology of the age as it follows Enguerrand from one battle to the next, observing how bankruptcies, crop failures, revolts, and plagues effectively forced people apart so that "emotional response, dulled by horrors, underwent a kind of atrophy..." Suggesting that the "relative emotional blankness of a medieval infancy may account for the casual attitude toward life and suffering," she illustrates the discrepancy between the ideal and the real apparent in upper-class traditions of chivalry, in the practice of Christianity, and in the impossible regulations imposed on nobles, priests, and commoners alike. Pessimism inevitably resulted, for "man had lost confidence in his capacity to construct a good society." This fascinating portrayal of a tumultuous time provides insights into the present and hope for the future.

What Do You Say to a Naked Elf?
A novel by Cheryl Sterling
Plain Jane Drysdale supplements her uninteresting day job by selling sex paraphernalia at what are basically erotic Tupperware parties. One dark night as she is speeding home, she brakes to avoid running over a rabbit and crashes her car. Woozy and hurt, she is taken away by a group of men. As they walk deeper into the woods, one of her rescuers, Charlie, tires of her questions, drugs her, and slings her over his shoulder. When she awakens, Charlie shares a few choice pieces of information with her: she has gone through a portal into another world; he has half elf, half fairy, and he'll be representing her at court for the murder of Tivat, a shape-shifter who happened to be the rabbit she ran over. Jane not only adapts to her new world, she also effects miraculous changes in it as it begins to change her. Jane and the reader will experience terrific adventures on an unexpected journey in Sterling's funny and wonderfully imagined paranormal romance.

When Darkness Comes
It's been a hell of a day for Abby Barlow. In just a few hours, she's survived an explosion, watched her employer die, had a startling dream, and now she finds herself in a seedy Chicago hotel with the sexy, unearthly Dante, a man she both desires and fears.
For 341 years, Dante has stood as guardian to The Chalice, a mortal woman chosen to hold back the darkness. A terrible twist of fate has now made Abby that woman. Three hours ago, Dante would have used all his charms to seduce her. Now she is his to protect. And he will do so until his very death.
A terrifying plan has been set in motion, one that will plunge Dante and Abby into an epic battle between good and evil—and a desperate race to save their love...

Embrace the Darkness
Lady Shay is the last of her kind. Half human, half Shalott, her blood is a precious aphrodisiac to vampires, who consider it more precious than gold. Though Shalotts are renowned assassins, a curse held over Shay lands her on the slave auction block, where her fate is uncertain...
Viper, the beguiling chief of a deadly vampire clan, can't explain his longing to possess the beautiful Shalott who once saved his life, but now he is free to do anything he wants with her. Strangely, while he desires both Shay's blood and body, he wants her to surrender willingly.
A hidden evil has been stalking Shay since she left the slave market with Viper. It is an evil that endangers the very existence of Viper's kind, and there's no reason he should court such danger just to protect a Shalott. But the love he feels for Shay is enough to make him willing to go to hell and back if it means spending an eternity with her in his arms...

Darkness Everlasting
Two men...one desires her love...the other her life...
Darcy Smith always sensed she was different from everyone else--if only she knew how different. Possessing a secret strong enough to end an entire race of demons, Darcy unwittingly becomes a pawn in an epic battle between the vampires and the Weres as she discovers a new world filled with ecstasy--and dark passions.
Consumed with lust for Darcy, Styx--the Anasso of vampires--will do everything in his powers to keep her out of the lair of Salvatore Giuliani, the deadly leader of the Weres. But protecting the woman he loves could cost Styx the ultimate price...
Salvatore Giuliani knows time is running out for the Weres. Pushed to the brink of extinction, he will stop at nothing to make Darcy his ultimate conquest and queen--for she alone holds the key to his survival.
But which of these men can Darcy trust? For all it takes is one bite to plunge her into a lifetime of servitude--or a lifetime of pleasure.
Succumb to eternal passion.

Book 1: The Gunslinger
Description:
Filled with ominous landscapes and macabre menace, Stephen King's latest mass market novel features The Gunslinger, a haunting figure in combat with The Man in Black in an epic battle of good versus evil. A spellbinding tale that is both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike.

Book 2: The Drawing of the Three

The Man in Black is dead, and Roland is about to be hurled into 20th-century America, occupying the mind of a man running cocaine on the New York/Bermuda shuttle. A brilliant work of dark fantasy inspired by Browning's romantic poem, "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came".

Book 3: The Waste Lands
Description:
As Roland the Last Gunslinger moves ever closer to the Dark Tower of his dreams and nightmares, he draws in with him street-smart Eddie Dean and wheelchair-bound Susannah.

Book 4: Wizard and Glass
Description:
Stephen King continues the saga of Roland, the last Gunslinger, and his quest for the Dark Tower in a world unlike any ever imagined, yet horrifyingly similar to our own. This time, Roland and his companions venture on a new journey--into the Gunslinger's past. Roland unfolds a tale revealing the secrets of his youth--a story of friendship and war, loyalty and betrayal, and the tragic loss of his first beloved.

Book 5: Wolves of the Calla
Description:
Roland Deschain and his ka-tet are bearing southeast through the forests of Mid-World, the almost timeless landscape that seems to stretch from the wreckage of civility that defined Roland's youth to the crimson chaos that seems the future's only promise. Readers of Stephen King's epic series know Roland well, or as well as this enigmatic hero can be known. They also know the companions who have been drawn to his quest for the Dark Tower: Eddie Dean and his wife, Susannah; Jake Chambers, the boy who has come twice through the doorway of death into Roland's world; and Oy, the Billy-Bumbler.
In this long-awaited fifth novel in the saga, their path takes them to the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis, a tranquil valley community of farmers and ranchers on Mid-World's borderlands. Beyond the town, the rocky ground rises toward the hulking darkness of Thunderclap, the source of a terrible affliction that is slowly stealing the community's soul. One of the town's residents is Pere Callahan, a ruined priest who, like Susannah, Eddie, and Jake, passed through one of the portals that lead both into and out of Roland's world.

As Father Callahan tells the ka-tet the astonishing story of what happened following his shamed departure from Maine in 1977, his connection to the Dark Tower becomes clear, as does the danger facing a single red rose in a vacant lot off Second Avenue in midtown Manhattan. For Calla Bryn Sturgis, danger gathers in the east like a storm cloud. The Wolves of Thunderclap and their unspeakable depredation are coming. To resist them is to risk all, but these are odds the gunslingers are used to, and they can give the Calla-folken both courage and cunning. Their guns, however, will not be enough.

The sixth volume in The Dark Tower series - the most anticipated series of publications in Stephen King's legendary career - The Dark Tower VI; Song Of Susannah is a pivotal instalment in the epic saga. It provides the key to the quest that defines Roland's life. In the next part of their journey to the tower, Roland and his band of followers face adversity from every side: Susannah Dean has been taken over by a demon-mother and uses the power of Black Thirteen to get from the Mid-World New York City. But who is the is the father of her child? And what role will the Crimson King play? Roland sends Jake to break Susannah's date with destiny, while he himself uses 'the persistence of magic' to get to Maine in the Summer of 1977. It is a terrible world: for one thing it is real and bullets are flying. For another, it is inhabited by the author of a novel called 'Salem's Lot. Song Of Susannah is driven by revelation and by suspense. It continues the Dark Tower seamlessly from Wolves Of The Calla and the dramatic climax will leave readers desperate to read the quest's conclusion.

Book 7: The Dark Tower
Description:
The most anticipated book in Stephen King's legendary career, The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower is the final installment to the bestselling author's epic series-a story that began thirty-three years ago with The Gunslinger and has gathered millions of ardent fans since Donald M. Grant published a limited edition of that first volume in 1981.

This volume completes the quest of Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger in a world which has "moved on." Like the first book in the series, the last is beautifully illustrated by famed fantasy artist Michael Whelan. And with the same mix of triumph and loss that made Wolves of the Calla a runaway bestseller, The Dark Tower tracks Roland towards his ultimate goal, the tower itself-the center of all time, all place. But this time, as Roland's ka-tet moves through The Dixie Pig in New York City to Algul Siento in End-World, the losses come from within his circle of companions. His antagonists, from Mia's chap Mordred to the force of evil known as the Crimson King, grow more desperate. In the final stage of his search, Roland needs one more ally, a last key to gain entry to the tower. What awaits him there, at the tower's very top, is a mystery sure to awe King's legions of devoted fans.

With Stephen King's unparalleled storytelling power, and with interest in fantasy at an all-time high, the release of The Dark Tower will be the most exciting publishing event of the year.

Title: The Zahir: A Novel of Obsession by Paulo Coelho

Book Description:
The press chat cites 65 million copies of Coelho's eight previous novels in print, making the Brazilian author one of the world's bestselling novelists (150 countries and 56 languages). This book, whose title means "the present" or "unable to go unnoticed" in Arabic, has an initial staggered laydown of eight million copies in 83 countries and 42 languages. It centers on the narrator's search for his missing wife, Esther, a journalist who fled Iraq in the runup to the present war, only to disappear from Paris; the narrator, a writer, is freed from suspicion when his lover, Marie, comes forward with a (true) alibi. He seeks out Mikhail, the man who may be Esther's most recent lover and with whom she was last seen, who has abandoned his native Kazakhstan for a kind of speaking tour on love. Mikhail introduces the narrator to a global underground "tribe" of spiritual seekers who resist, somewhat vaguely, conventional ways of living. Through the narrator's journey from Paris to Kazakhstan, Coelho explores various meanings of love and life, but the impact of these lessons is diminished significantly as they are repeated in various forms by various characters. Then again, 65 million readers can't be wrong; the spare, propulsive style that drove The Alchemist, Eleven Minutes and Coelho's other books will easily carry fans through myriad iterations of the ways and means of amor. (Sept.)

Cirque Du Freak
(A Living Nightmare)
(The first book in the Saga of Darren Shan series)

It's the wonderfully gothic Cirque du Freak where weird, frightening half human/half animals appear who interact terrifyingly with the audience. Darren -- a spider freak -- 'falls in love' with Madam Octa -- an enormous tarantala owned by the circus proprietor. Darren determines to steal the spider so that he can train it to perform amazing deeds. But his daring theft goes horrible wrong. The spider bites his best mate and Darren has to sell his soul to an evil vampire to get the antidote. Something out of the ordinary is set against the background of children's normal lives to chilling effect. Atmospheric, funny, realistic, moving and... terrifying.

Darren begins to enjoy his life among the Cirque performers as the youngest half-vampire in existence, but he defiantly refuses to drink human blood -- the whole idea sickens him -- and he tries desperately to cling on to the part of him which is human. Darren comes face to face with pure evil in the form of Mr Tiny, the leader of the Little People who join the Cirque du Freak, and who eat anything -- including human flesh. When he discovers animal bones, RV frees the wolf-man from his cage -- and no-one could possibly guess how truly terrible the whole effect would be. The Vampire's Assistant follows some of the amazing characters from Cirque du Freak, and also introduces some more who truly blow the imagination.

Magic, Witchcraft, and Ghosts in the Greek and Roman Worlds

In a culture where the supernatural possessed an immediacy now strange to us, magic was of great importance both in the literary and mythic tradition and in ritual practice. Recently, ancient magic has hit a high in popularity, both as an area of scholarly inquiry and as one of general, popular interest. In Magic, Witchcraft, and Ghosts in the Greek and Roman Worlds Daniel Ogden presents three hundred texts in new translations, along with brief but explicit commentaries. This is the first book in the field to unite extensive selections from both literary and documentary sources. Alongside descriptions of sorcerers, witches, and ghosts in the works of ancient writers, it reproduces curse tablets, spells from ancient magical recipe books, and inscriptions from magical amulets. Each translation is followed by a commentary that puts it in context within ancient culture and connects the passage to related passages in this volume. Authors include the well known (Sophocles, Herodotus, Plato, Aristotle, Virgil, Pliny) and the less familiar, and extend across the whole of Greco-Roman antiquity.

David Icke - The Robots' Rebellion - The Story of the Spiritu

We live in a world which is increasingly dominated by revolutionary new technology but, according to author and lecturer, David Icke, it is WE who are the robots. Icke reveals the alarming extent to which people of all nations have allowed themselves to be programmed by the ideas fed to them by those in power. Fearlessly, he tears down the veils of hypocrisy, built up for generations by the corrupt forces of Church, State, science and commerce - and reveals the true pathos of the human condition beneath. He points, too, to the frightening influence wielded throughout the planet by a merciless and manipulative network of secret societies.

The existence of long-established links between Earth-bound humanity and beings from other dimensions and planets in the Universe has been suppressed for years, says Icke, by the world's power-broking hierarchy. When ordinary people learn the real role they have to play within a rich and varied cosmic society, rebellion against those who have kept this extraordinary truth from them will, he predicts, be inevitable.

Hidebound politicians, bankers, economists, educationalists, scientists and the leaders of the world's established religions are not going to welcome Icke's challenging book. But it is not intended for those who wield and abuse power. This book is for the world's unwilling robots who, says Icke, in an upbeat conclusion, have it within themselves to rise up - and take control of their own exciting destiny

The Serial Killer Files - Harold Schechter

Description:
The definitive dossier on history's most heinous!

Hollywood's make-believe maniacs like Jason, Freddy, and Hannibal Lecter can't hold a candle to real life monsters like John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and scores of others who have terrorized, tortured, and terminated their way across civilization throughout the ages. Now, from the much-acclaimed author of Deviant, Deranged, and Depraved, comes the ultimate resource on the serial killer phenomenon.

Rigorously researched and packed with the most terrifying, up-to-date information, this innovative and highly compelling compendium covers every aspect of multiple murderers-from psychology to cinema, fetishism to fan clubs, "trophies" to trading cards. Discover:

Who they are
Those featured include Ed Gein, the homicidal mama's boy who inspired fiction's most famous Psycho, Norman Bates; Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi, sex-crazed killer cousins better known as the Hillside Stranglers; and the Beanes, a fifteenth-century cave-dwelling clan with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.

How they kill
They shoot, stab, and strangle. Butcher, bludgeon, and burn. Drown, dismember, and devour... and other methods of massacre too many and monstrous to mention here.

Why they do it
For pleasure and for profit. For celebrity and for "companionship." For the devil and for dinner. For the thrill of it, for the hell of it, and because "such men are monsters, who live... beyond the frontiers of madness."

Extras: in-depth case studies, classic killers' nicknames, definitions of every kind of deviance and derangement, and much, much more.

For more than one hundred profiles of lethal loners and killer couples, Bluebeards and black widows, cannibals and copycats - this is an indispensable, spine-tingling, eye-popping investigation into the dark hearts and mad minds of that twisted breed of human whose crimes are the most frightening... and fascinating.

However, nothing comes easy in a turbulent city. To realise their goals, they will have to face it all -- religious politics, calamities, unacceptable love and above all, their own mistakes. Will they make it? Can an individual's dreams overcome the nightmares offered by real life? Can we succeed despite a few mistakes? Based on real events, from the bestselling author of Five Point Someone and one night @ the call center, comes another dark, witty tale about modern India, where Chetan Bhagat brings out the ethos and isolation of an entire generation to the fore.

Business has been lagging lately at Connections, the Delhi call center for a large U.S. computer and appliance company. Twenty-six-year-old agent Shyam, known to his American callers as "Sam," is less concerned about his career than his breakup with coworker Priyanka. (She recently consented to an arranged marriage with a wealthy Indian expat.) Sam's other twentysomething colleagues have troubles of their own: aspiring model Esha takes desperate measures to secure gigs; Radhika suffers humiliation at the hands of an unfaithful spouse; and Varun, aka Vroom, drives at dangerous speeds to cope with personal and professional distress. The bane of the staff's existence is their jargon-spewing boss, Bakshi, who blithely assumes credit for his employees' work. One particularly tense evening (which happens to be Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.), the Connections staff take a break from the office--and receive a life-altering call. Bhagat, an investment banker based in Hong Kong, renders engaging characters and a provocative premise.

Laurie Graff - You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs

Tales from the dating pond.
"It only takes one."
"There are a lot of other fish in the sea."
"Every pot has a cover."
"When it's your time, it will just happen."
Ugh!
Karrie Kline had heard it all. But her search for the perfect man had never been all that pressing until her laugh lines became more noticeable, she attended one too many bridal showers and woke up next to far too many never-gonna-commit men. Suddenly, she realized that finding someone to love (and who actually loved her back) was important. Karrie wanted more. But knowing what she wanted, and actually getting what she wanted... well, that was a lot to think about.
Through her wry, witty and sometimes wrenching recollections, join Karrie as she looks back at over fifteen years of dating vignettes involving disastrous fix-ups, strange chance encounters and missed opportunities. From the shortest date in Manhattan history, to Mr. FamousHollywoodTelevisonActor who was more bark than bite, these are tales for every woman -- whether she's found her Prince Charming, or her lips are incredibly chapped from kissing her own share of frogs.

The Cinderella Rules (Glass Slipper, Inc series)
by
Donna Kauffman

THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF CINDERELLA IN EVERY WOMAN...
... except Darby Landon, or so she thinks before meeting the three fairy godmothers of Glass Slipper, Inc. They guarantee they can bring out the princess in any woman. But they'll have their work cut out for them with Darby, who's more comfortable in jeans and cowboy boots than designer gowns. But when she's called from her Montana ranch to squire her impossible-to-please father's star client around the D.C. social scene, Darby has to turn into the queen of chic... and fast.
Between torture-chamber sessions of tweezing and teasing, and horrifying lessons on place settings, Darby finds herself drawn into a fairy-tale romance of the very adult variety with Shane Morgan, the devastatingly sexy (and reluctant) heir to one of the city's largest companies. But when another Prince Charming arrives on the scene, Darby's caught between the woman she is and the woman she's supposed to be, between two very different irresistible bad boys. Now Darby has to choose her own happy ending... and with the help of three very unusual fairy godmothers, this modern-day Cinderella is determined to stay dancing way past midnight-no pumpkins required.

Dear Prince Charming (Glass Slipper, Inc series)
by
Donna Kauffman

Too short to be a model, too unartistically inclined to be a designer, Valerie Wagner has finally found her niche in the fashion world she loves as the publicist for Glass Slipper, Inc., and the mastermind behind the launch of their brand-new glossy magazine. She's signed up the perfect cover model -Prince Charming, an advice columnist who's won the hearts of millions of women with his acerbic wit and his on-target romantic insight. Best of all, he's never revealed his real name or shown his face. Until now. And it's Valerie who's about to bring him into the limelight. There's just one problem. America's sweetheart, the sexy and sensitive man who's helped millions of women get their man, is coming out of the closet with a vengeance.
Valerie's new-found career is teetering on the brink of ruin. She can't crush the hopes of all the buyers of the magazine. She can't get Eric out of his seven-figure contract. And Prince Charming himself is tired of living a lie, and wants to find his own Mr. Right. Looks like there's no way out. Until Eric offers up his childhood best friend Jack, a sportswriter with a devilish smile and a chain of ruined relationships behind him. With Eric as the brains of the operation and Jack as the heartthrob that the media can sink its teeth into, they're an unbeatable team, and no one ever has to know... until Jack notices that behind Valerie's overachiever businesswoman personality is a woman with her very own kind of charm, and he decides to take matters into his own hands...
Fresh, sexy, and funny enough to have come from the pen of Prince Charming himself, Donna Kauffman transcends the boundaries of romance and chick lit to take her ownparticular twist on a fairy tale.

Bakery Sisters series
01 Sweet Talk

Don't ask Claire Keyes. The twenty-eight-year-old piano prodigy has never had a regular boyfriend, much less a real romance. Her music career has left little room for friends or family—which is just part of the reason she hasn't seen the family bakery or her two sisters in years.

But now Nicole is sick, and Jesse is AWOL. Despite the fact that Claire can't boil water, she's determined to play caretaker. Connecting with her sisters tops her to-do list…along with falling in love, or at least in lust, for the first time.

Ruggedly sexy Wyatt just might fit the bill. Although he keeps saying that he and Claire come from entirely different worlds, he lights up hotter than a bakery oven whenever Claire is near. If this keeps up, she just might sweet—talk him into her bed…and her life.

02 - Sweet Spot

http://i37.tinypic.com/2qixx6q.jpg

"Responsibility" should be Nicole Keyes's middle name. After all, not many people would sacrifice their lives to run the family bakery and raise a younger sibling. But with Nicole's twin sister now blissfully married and her younger sis turning out more femme fatale than girl-next-door, super reliable Nicole is getting sick of putting everyone else's needs first!

Enter Hawk. The deliciously sexy former NFL player offers Nicole a taste of the freedom she craves. Hawk may know the way, blindfolded, to her sweet spot, but Nicole's not about to let him get close enough to break her heart. Of course, she might not have a choice in the matter if Hawk's past keeps getting in the way of their present.…

03 - Sweet Trouble

http://i38.tinypic.com/vqic6w.jpg

Jesse Keyes has done some serious growing up. With a steady job and a vibrant four-year-old son, Gabe, she's in a far better place than when she left Seattle five years ago…pregnant and misunderstood by almost everyone in her life.

Now it's time to go home and face her demons. But her sisters, Claire and Nicole, aren't exactly impressed with the new and improved Jesse. And then there's Matt, Gabe's father, who makes it clear that he never wants to see her again despite the lust that still smolders between them.

Jesse doesn't know if she can make up for all the mistakes of her past. But the promise of sweet nights with Matt might just give her the extra incentive she needs to make it worth the trouble.…

Journey to the West by Wu Cheng En (1506 to 1582)
For Mobipocket reader

http://www.humanities.uci.edu/mclark/HumCore2001/Core2000Archive/journey1.JPG

Journey to the West is a household legend and myth throughout East Asia, especially China, and among Chinese throughout the world. It is based on the real life monk Xuan Zang's (also known as Tripitaka or Tang San Zang) pilgrimage to India, to fetch back some Buddhist scriptures. Nonetheless, this fictional retelling focuses on San Zang's first disciple, the monkey king, Sun Wu Kong, who captured readers' hearts and imagination with his bold, daring, and mischievous personality. He was also very rebellious. As a matter of fact, Wu Cheng En wrote Journey to the West to criticize China's political system and society.
Basically, Journey to the West is about Tang San Zang's journey to the west (duh) and the difficulties he and his disciples face in between. It is overflowing with magic, demons, gods, immortals, and scrumptious action and adventure! It has lots of humor and some angst as well. Monkey King Wu Kong and the other disciples, a pig demon Zhu Ba Jie and the river demon Sha Wu Jing, have to battle hordes of demons, who all want their master because his flesh will give immortality to anyone who eats it.
This epic story is a captivating read, with the pilgrims getting into trouble in the most unexpected places, fighting through not only outright confrontation and abduction but also lies and disguises while using trickery of their own. Sun Wu Kong the Monkey King is especially good at this, having mastered the way of transforming himself into anything he likes, including a fly, tree, or a beautiful girl. Xi You Ji spans over a huge area, taking readers for a wild ride to the Heavens, volcanoes, seas, wide rivers, mountain peaks, demon-filled caves, right down to the pits of Hell. The plot is imaginative and full of conflict, either with external enemies or between the pilgrims themselves. The characters are well developed, with distinct, three-dimensional personalities. Well, most of them, at least. There are also underlying spiritual and religious themes. This masterpiece is frequently underestimated as it also portrays a realistic view of the political and social scenarios during the Ming Dynasty. In short, Xi You Ji is definitely worth your time. Grab the chance to experience one of the greatest classics of ancient China!

he Fall of Reach takes place in the Halo universe and spans several decades, beginning in 2517 describing events up to 2552. In the Halo universe faster than light travel is possible through slipspace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipspace), another dimension where special relativity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_relativity) does not apply. This has allowed humans to colonize hundreds of other planets which are controlled by the United Nations Space Command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factions_of_Halo#United_Nations_Space_Command) (UNSC). Feeling repressed by the UNSC's heavy-handed rule, some colonies revolt; fearing rebellion will tear the UNSC apart, military leaders approve the SPARTAN Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARTAN_Project), a secret squad of super soldiers to quietly suppress rebellion.

Halo: The Flood is set in the year 2552. Humanity has colonized hundreds of worlds across the galaxy, using faster-than-light drives and cryonic sleep (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryonics) to travel between worlds. Without warning, a collective of alien races known as the Covenant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covenant_%28Halo%29) began attacking the outlying colonies, brutally exterminating all life by vitrifying (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitrification) the surface of the planets. Humanity, outnumbered and outclassed by the alien's superior technology, wages a losing war against the enemy. After the human bastion of Reach falls to the Covenant, the human ship Pillar of Autumn jumps into slipspace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slipspace) to lead the Covenant away from Earth.

First Strike takes place in the 26th century, where humanity, under the governance of the United Nations Space Command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factions_of_Halo#United_Nations_Space_Command) (UNSC), has been fighting a losing war against a religious collective of alien races known as the Covenant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covenant_%28Halo%29). Humanity's best defense against the Covenant is the SPARTAN Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARTAN_Project), super-soldiers in powered armor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_exoskeleton), but these elite troops are too few to turn the tide of war in the UNSC's favor. Following a Covenant attack on Reach, a planet within UNSC jurisdiction, the Pillar of Autumn flees randomly coming across an ancient installation built by the mysterious Forerunner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forerunner_%28Halo%29). The Covenant call this relic Halo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_%28megastructure%29), and believe it is a weapon and means of transcendence. UNSC discover that Halo is in fact a method of containing a parasite known as the Flood, or destroying all sentient life to prevent the Flood from spreading beyond Halo. The SPARTAN Master Chief (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Chief_%28Halo%29) and his artificial intelligence companion, Cortana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortana), detonate the Pillar of Autumn's engines, destroying Halo. Escaping the destruction via a fighter, the Chief and Cortana believe themselves the only survivors of the catastrophe.

Ghosts of Onyx takes place in the 26th century, where humanity, under the auspices of the United Nations Space Command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factions_of_Halo#United_Nations_Space_Command), has developed faster-than-light travel and colonized hundreds of worlds. Without warning, an alien collective known as the Covenant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Covenant_%28Halo%29) attacks the outer human colony of Harvest. The Covenant begin to hunt down human colonies, vitrifying (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitrification) the surface of each world. Humanity's best weapon against the technologically superior Covenant are the SPARTAN-IIs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPARTAN_Project), supersoldiers equipped with powerful armor; unfortunately, there are too few of the SPARTANs to turn the tide of the war.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo:_Ghosts_of_Onyx#cite_note-9)

Although the zombie pandemic's true origins are unknown, it appears to begin in China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China). The Chinese government attempts to contain the infection and concocts a crisis involving Taiwan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan), in order to mask the true purpose of the increased military activity. The infection spreads across the world, spreading to other countries by infected refugees and black market organs, where several outbreaks in major cities finally bring the plague to the attention of the world.
As the infection spreads, only a few countries, Israel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel) among them, take steps to initiate nationwide quarantine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarantine) programs. The United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), sapped of political will by several "brushfire wars" and lulled into a false sense of security by an ineffective vaccine called "Phalanx", sends Special Forces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Special_Forces) units to combat local outbreaks, but otherwise does little to prepare for the pandemic. Eventually, the pandemic begins to overwhelm the human race, leading to a period known as the "Great Panic." The United States Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army) sends a task force to Yonkers, New York (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonkers,_New_York), in a high-profile military campaign intended to restore American morale, but due to the reliance on Cold War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War)-era tactics, modern weaponry and unforeseen problems, the force is routed. Artillery, shrapnel, and incendiary-based weaponry, designed to inflict mortal wounds on living bodies, prove useless against the living dead. Other countries suffer similarly disastrous defeats against their own infections.
More countries begin to fall victim to the zombie plague. A brief nuclear exchange occurs between Iran (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran) and Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan) over the destruction of several key Pakistani bridges, in an attempt to halt the advance of the undead. The Three Gorges Dam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Gorges_Dam) collapses, due to seismic activity and inadequate construction methods, resulting in a civil war that ends with a democratic China. Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan) is forced to evacuate its remaining population to South Korea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Korea), Kamchatka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamchatka), and other areas. Meanwhile, millions of refugees attempt to live in the oceans in massive armadas of ships.
The turning point of the war comes in South Africa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Africa), where the government adopts a plan to establish small "safe zones", ideally to be protected by natural barriers such as mountain ranges or river valleys, where the infection could be eradicated. Small groups of refugees are to be kept alive outside the safe zones for the purpose of distracting the hordes of undead and allowing those within the safe zones time to regroup. Various governments worldwide quickly adopt this "Redeker Plan", and the nations of the world begin a determined effort to wipe out the undead plague.
The United States, after relocating the capital to Hawaii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii) and establishing the area west of the Rocky Mountains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountains) as its safe zone, restructures its economy for complete wartime production. In the East, several quarantine zones attempt to maintain their barricades with minimal resupply drops and limited help. The military reforms its tactics and adopts new weapons to better cope with massive battles against the zombies, focusing on precise headshots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headshot), instead of high rates of fire. Other nations also adopt different tactics to wipe out the undead.
Ten years after the "official" end of the worldwide zombie war, millions of undead are still active and the geopolitical landscape of the Earth has been completely altered. In colder areas of the globe, outbreaks occur every spring, as frozen zombies thaw and find their way to human populations. Large swarms still roam the ocean floor and occasionally emerge onto dry land. Several regions, most notably Iceland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iceland), are still completely overrun. Cuba (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuba) has become the world's most thriving economy, resulting in it becoming the international banking capital of the world. Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia) has undergone a religious revolution and is now an aggressively expansionist theocracy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theocracy). An independent Tibet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tibet) is the world's most populous country. Major effects of the war are a drastic reduction in the human population of the Earth and the devastation of many natural environments, as much by desperate humans as by marauding zombies. The United Nations also fields a large military constantly engaged in eliminating the remaining undead.
