Mobile Desktop is a wireless client for Microsoft Terminal Services, Remote Desktop, and VNC.
How it works - Microsoft Terminal Services or Remote Desktop connections
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a communications protocol that allows you to connect securely to any computer that is running Microsoft Terminal Services or Remote Desktop.
Mobile Desktop uses RDP to act as a Terminal Services or Remote Desktop client on your wireless handheld. The client receives screen updates and processes keyboard and mouse movements.
How it works - VNC connections
VNC is a client-server protocol. A VNC client connects to a VNC server to receive screen updates and to process keyboard and mouse movements.
For VNC connections, Mobile Desktop acts as a VNC client on your wireless handheld, and you must install a VNC server on the computer you want to access.
You can download a VNC server from various sources, including:
* RealVNC
* UltraVNC
* Other Platforms
Security
For RDP connections, the RDP protocol used by Terminal Services and Remote Desktop encrypts all connections using the RC4 encryption algorithm.
For VNC connections, the VNC Protocol encrypts passwords with TDES. Mobile Desktop also supports tunneling VNC connections over SSH.
BlackBerry users who use a BlackBerry Enterprise Server will have all their connections encrypted using TDES or AES, on top of the encryption already provided by Mobile Desktop.
Minimum System Requirements
Mobile Desktop can be used on BlackBerry devices, Nokia phones, Motorola phones, and Sony Ericsson phones that meet the following minimum requirements:
* BlackBerry devices: any color BlackBerry with a wireless data plan and v4.0 or higher of the BlackBerry system software. For the best performance, we recommend BlackBerry devices with 64 MB of memory (or more).
* Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson phones: any Java MIDP 2.0-enabled device with at least 32 MB of device memory and a color screen.
