You can play RA and RM files on your MS-Smartphone using the PocketPC version of RealOne player.
Although there is no official build, RealPlayer works great on SmartPhones. Videos look rubbish and the backlight doesn't stay on, but it works with audio very nicely.
Do not ask how to download streams here. Google will help you find how to download streaming audio for offline use
It works a treat with audio files from the BBC, and that's one of the biggest collections of regularly updated realmedia.
I know its possible to convert to wma or mp3 but I'm too lazy for that
1) Go to this page on Real.com (http://www.real.com/realmobile/download.html), fill in your details and choose the PocketPC version (the alternative being symbian)
2) On the next page choose RealPlayer for Pocket PC 1.1 Preview Release, and you'll download RealOnePlayerPPC11PR.exe
3) Begin the install, but don't click next when the first screen appears
4) Go to Start->Run and type %TMP% and when you press enter, your temp folder will open
5) Find the subfolder called ~rnsetup which is where the install program will have decompressed itself.
6) Open the file REALPLAYER.CAB (my computer opens it in Winzip)
7) Use Winzip to extract all the files from the cab somewhere (e.g. c:\realplayertemp)
8) Rename the following files:
REALPL~1.002 -> RealPlayer.exe
000000gx.001 -> gx.dll
00gecko2.003 -> gecko2.dll
000sipro.007 -> sipro.dll
0000rv20.004 -> rv20.dll
0000rv30.005 -> rv30.dll
0000rv40.006 -> rv40.dll
9) Delete all the other files
10) Copy all those files that you renamed from c:\realplayertemp to the phone
11) Run RealPlayer.EXE on the phone, using SmartExplorer (or equivalent) and click yes to all the warnings.
In running the EXE it will associate .ra and .rm files so you'll be able to click on them and they'll open in realplayer in the future.
[Update] It doesn’t look like this stage always works. Before continuing with the MenuHack below, test that you can open a .ra or .rm file in SmartExplorer or File Manager.
If you got an error message saying "file or url not found" follow these steps
Open up smartexplorer
go to File->Open->Manage File types...
scroll down to .ra
Menu->Edit file type
ensure that the "command to execute" is something like "\storage card\program files\real\realplayer.exe" "%1"
you need the quotes around the %1
do the same for .rm
USING REALPLAYER'S MENUS WITH MENUHACK:
Unfortunately you cannot pause the file while its playing, you have to endtask to stop it but you can access the menu RealPlayer's menu items which have "clip info", "open location" and Exit by following these steps:
12) On the phone, rename Realplayer.exe to _RealPlayer.exe
13) Rename MenuHack.exe (or MenuHack2002.exe) to RealPlayer.exe and copy to the phone
14) Download this attachment MenuHack.zip ( 307bytes )
15) Extract MenuHack.ini and save it in the same folder as realplayer on your phone
When you open realmedia files now, you'll be able to view the file information, open URLs and close the player. All of those items open behind the windows you are looking at so you may have to use Xbar or TaskManager to find them. Look for a window titled "Dialog".
hope this guide is of use to someone.
