It has been observed that a majority of you users cannot dev-sign an unsigned S60 3rd Edition SIS File, and, quoting excuses that "I am new/Foreigner" etc, you post your IMEI's and expect others to sign it for you.In several cases, you people post your IMEIs openly when you cant do a simple thing as running a keygen (Even when instructions are posted)

Although, there is no rule till date which prohibits posting of IMEI by members per se. Its the duty of the staff of this site to let you know the ills that can occur when you post your IMEI's openly.

First, get to know the basics of what an IMEI is. Wikipedia has a very good article that can be accessed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMEINow, under the "Troubles" section, you will find a BBC Link. This points here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/1749215.stmRead the 2nd link carefully. Its very important. You will come to know that the IMEI is a very important number, and, passing it on openly will create problems only for you, and, no one else.

We, the staff at DotSIS hope that you have understood the seriousness of this issue and, hope that such practices dont occur in the future.

As a disclaimer, let it be made absolutely clear that any member of DotSIS or its staffs will NOT be responsible if your IMEI number is misused and you face problems because of it.If you post your IMEI in the public, you and you alone are responsible for this action of yours.

Thank You.

yeah bro, i agree, IMEI is a unique number per device and posting it for public leaves the owner to LAW problems if in country like US, and you cant' complain coz your number is only one all over the world so it's your and only fault so plz guys watch out and i hope that one of the mods. of symbian forums post a tutriol on how to sign an application.... regards.

Do people here really read stickies?

Anyway, I think people will still post their IMEI due to symbiansigned.com closing their registrations now and then and not to mention that most people are lazy at signing applications that all they want is just download and install, just like Plug and Play.

Let them post if they want to. No one has any authority over that. If they feel like harming themselves, let them. They are free to do so. However, by the Disclaimer stated, they cant blame the site/its members if something goes wrong with this deed of theirs.

it is not that we want to make trouble to ourself! I admit that I do post my IMEI no. too, but I frankly against those who blindly request someone to get a cert. for them but they don't even have much idea how a basic of signing a files is, and these guys don't deserve to ask for anything in the first place.

but many of us still do request someone to make a cert. file for us, an I do know how to sign a file.

Go have a look at www.symbiansigned.com, it is no more allowed for us to register a new account, and the only hope we have is to request any existing members there to sign a cert for us, as simple as that!

If you want to avoid us doing so, try removing all the guides posted else where of how to sign a file, as the method has been no more valid to us, we can't register an account at symbainsigned anymore!

This thread just says that dotsis isn't responsible for anything that happens to your phone because of IMEI. I think that the manufacturer can lock the said phone just by telling them the IMEI, usually, you do this when you're phone is stolen. The thread isn't saying that posting IMEIs are illegal.

yeah! your right it was not DOTSIS responsibility if anyone have problem regarding their post of their IMEI. they should know that, regarding on the signing of application they should wait the symbiansigned to open the registration.

signing is way too easy for anyone... i managed to do it in 1st shot using binpda's gui... jusy read carefully and everything works out fine... the real problem is that now dayz mos keygen's and binpda signing software require microsoft .net to be installed without which they don't run and new users get panicky and post their IMEI's to get someone else do the job for them... i suggest that all users should install latest version of .net package if they are facing problems in running keygens/signing software...

Well, now that Symbian Signed Registrations are open again (As on 12th Sept 07), we will know shortly how many were using "Site shut" as an excuse to get their apps signed by others.

So, from now on, unfortunately, "Symbian Signed no longer allows registration" is not a valid excuse to post your IMEIs openly

what people can do is..they can get the cer and the key file from some signer..if they cant make an acct on symbian signed...as it doesnt allow free email addresses...

then they can sign the apps until their cer file expires :)

Read the S60 3rd Edition Help and Request Zone. There are so many tricks to get an account at Symbian Signed.

Making the Cer and Key file is the main thing where everyone stumbles. Then its a cakewalk after that.

Still, its up to you to be mature and not post your IMEI. It isnt binding, but, as said, its your responsibility and no one will be responsible if something untoward happens to you because of your leaked IMEI.
