The default memory card of the nokia 6500s came with different icons for different folders. Is it possible to get such folders with icons on a new memory card as well? There must be some method to atleast give the music folder with a music folder icon.
May be little imagination could let us add our own home made icons...
I am still researching this.
Indeed, naming your folders "predefmusic", "predefcollection" and so on produces a special folder icon. The disadvantage is that you can't change the folder's name AND keep the icon. And "predefmusic" sounds like **bleep**.
I noticed that my memory card used to have those icons and normal names - like "Music", "Videos" etc. I deleted them when I formatted the card, but I think they can be re-created. I will try these steps tonight when I get home:
- plug in my PC card reader;
- insert the card
- create a folder named "Extra", if there isn't one already;
- create a folder named "predefmusic" inside "Extra";
- mark "predefmusic" as system folder;
- remove the card, insert it into the phone;
- access the memory card, select the folder "predefmusic", RENAME it to "Music" or whatever else you want to see when you browse for it.

Now, that's just what I'd do. I don't know if it will work but in theory you should have a folder named as you wish and with a beautiful, personalized icon.

Actually it was a bit easier.
So, what you need is a card reader and use total commander to make nokia system file (google it )(or any other file explorer that allows you to mess around with your computer files better than Explorer does).
All the steps I enumerated above are correct except for the last: that one is completely unnecessary. The folders you create and set as system folders will automatically be displayed with their "nice" name (e.g. "Music" instead of "predefmusic" ). That's it!
A few other prerequisites:
- the folder named "Extra" must exist, and the "predef" folders must be inside "Extra"
- the "predef" folders must be marked as system folders, otherwise you will end up having the icon you wanted, but with an ugly and long name; changing the name makes the icon revert to the one you had before (a simple folder icon)
- the names you can use are:
predefgames,
predefmusic
predefphotos
predefrecordings
predeftones and
predefvideos. Inside "predeftones"
you can create predefalerttones and predefringtones (also marked as system folders). I think there might be more of them, please post their predef-name and location, if you find any.

Thank you for your patience, enjoy

i think this technique only works for series 60 and beyond phones. if so, it does not belong in this section

If you wonder how to change folder attributes with total Commander select the folder, click on "File" in the menu bar and then select the first option - "Change attributes". Click on the "s System" check box until you see a check mark (usually two clicks). Press OK and you're done.

TIP: you can mark as system folder any folder you don't want to be deleted accidentally by you or by someone who gets a chance to browse trough your phone. This method also works for files

But all you need is Total Commander, USB cable and your phone.

1. Connect your phone with PC (or Mac with Windows) in transfer mode
2. Crate a folder such as "predefmusic" and in TC mark this folder as "system folder"
3. Now your folder in mobile is "Music" (in english)

Note
the folder named "Extra" must exist, and the "predef" folders must be inside "Extra
Extra/ make folder... predefphotos ... change folder attributes with total Commander
