Hi

I have tried the 3 key combination (Holding "*", "3" and "Green" button, and power on) to format the device, but there is no response from the phone. It just tries to start and display the message "Phone Startup failed, contact retailer". I really love the 6600 phone and its not under warranty, anymore suggestions before I give up and buy another one !!

I would really appreciate suggestions!!

Thanks in advance!

try a soft reset (but it will delete everything in your phone memory) but it will return to their default settings *#7370#

Yo! That's ur best friend there. Go to the nearest service centre or any phone shop that could handle system flashin by cable.
That will bring ur best friend back to normal. Infact, if u choose to go to nokia svc ctr, flash it with the latest firmware available.
I'm sure u gonna luv ur buddy more after that upgradin.
Cheers.

in the beggining of my reply i must advice u to "contact retailer" :D or take the problem in ur hands.
Here is the solve :1.turn off phone.2.take out MMC and battery.3.put batt in and turn on along with the 3 key move (*-green-3 master reset).4.go slowly to organizer->memory(will show "no memory card inserted).5.open the slot and put in mmc(if u have an outside slot for the MMC!!!).6.give a format to MMC(process of phone should be very slow,so do not rush it)after all this finished you should give it a *#7370# than again a master reset. Hope this will help:cool:

Dear kapoeira,
u can still format the 6600 even without inserting the mmc to the mmc slot if u choose not to have it in ur fon when u wanna format it.
Reinserting the mmc to the fon during formatting for 6600 is NOT advisable at all. The risk of rendering the fon useless is very high if u wanna do this.
Simple reason, u'll need to take out the battery to insert the mmc. There's no external mmc slot for 6600. By removing the battery, u'll interrupt the formatting process. And i think everybody already knew what will happen next.
Another thing, there's not really any need for us to reformat the mmc to solve this probs.
Do understand that by letting the mmc intact to the fon during fon formatting process doesnt means that u r formatting the mmc too.

maybe, here....
"Contact retailer" must be reflash with any service box for nokia.
Full erase | Flash MCU and PPM | Write PM | Unlocked it

if this not solve your problem then do "Full Factory Default" after format user area

"Phone startup failed, contact retailer"

This is the major problem in all symbian phones.....Mostly happens in Nokia.....
In this problem phone starts abnormally...May b it will show Nokia logo for a long time or for really short time and then this massage appear on the phone and in most cases u can turn off the phone by just pressing the power button....
Basically this problem occurs due to two reasons hardware and software...
Hardware
There are rare chances to have hardware problem....Boot ic or Upp or Flash ic got damaged....This may b due to drop damage or in some cases it can b water damage also..
Software
Most of times we can solve this problem with software....Mostly its a virus which creating the problem...OR Firmware damage...OR Mobile memory get overloaded which not let the phone to power on normally....
Solutions
There is a solution which discussed lots of times in this thread which is Hard format(By key combinations)....Just press and hold * 3 and yes(Green button) and while holding these buttons also press power button once...This method will wipe all your data from the phone....Its better to use charger during the operation....If your problem not solve by this method....So there is a last and the ultimate solution which is called Flashing OR Firmware upgradation which only can be done by the professional phone repairers...OR just bring this phone to nearest service center.....
Note..Its better to check software before doing hardware...:cool1:

All you can do just hard format by press and hold 3 key..
Hold the 3 keys and turn on your phone..
Still hold the 3 button untill "formatting" screen appear..
Just wait until the indicator full..
Never late the battery empty..
Better use it with charge mode..
Hope it help..
